Volunteer fire department Berlin

Even in the city of Berlin, around 1,500 people volunteer in 58 stations to help people in acute need. Whether in the event of accidents, fires, medical emergencies or natural disasters – the volunteers are always there where they are needed. The campaign was launched at the end of 2018 in order to strengthen the recruitment of young volunteers.

Focus on the volunteers

The volunteers themselves are at the heart of the campaign. Interviews revealed four main motivations for joining the volunteer fire department: drive, team spirit, willingness to help and personal progress. These values make the community strong – and attractive to the young target groups.

New media formats
for digital natives

Under the hashtag #DeinEinsatzfuerBerlin, the campaign is primarily aimed at digital natives on social networks. An image film, advertising material for social media such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, as well as a campaign website were created for this purpose.

A sleek, responsive website makes the volunteer fire department experience intuitive: video film, main motivations, interactive map and interviews with the volunteers make you want to get involved.

The interactive map guides interested parties to the nearest police station

Potential recruits can use the zip code search within the map to find the nearest station. An intelligent proximity search also displays other stations as alternatives to the closest station.

The campaign was supplemented by postcards, flyers and posters in order to present the emotional arguments for volunteering in a compact form. The materials are surprising, arouse curiosity and offer points of contact for interested parties.
